President Donald Trump on Friday ceased all U.S. funding to South Africa and opened a pathway to fast-track U.S. citizenship for farmers who are having their land confiscated by the South African government.

"South Africa is being terrible, plus, to long time Farmers in the country. They are confiscating their LAND and FARMS, and MUCH WORSE THAN THAT. A bad place to be right now, and we are stopping all Federal Funding," Trump wrote in a post to Truth Social.

An executive order Trump signed last month precipitated Friday's move. the order also paved the way for Afrikaners in South Africa who have had their farms seized to resettle in the USA as part of the refugee program.

South Africa has a population of around 64 million people, 7 percent of which are white. While statistics vary, most say there are hundreds of attacks on white farmers each year resulting in 50 to 100 murders each year.

Trump wrote in the Truth Social post: "To go a step further, any Farmer (with family!) from South Africa, seeking to flee that country for reasons of safety, will be invited into the United States of America with a rapid pathway to Citizenship. This process will begin immediately!"

A Feb. 7 executive order signed by Trump stated that South Africa recently enacted Expropriation Act 13 of 2024, which enables the government to "seize ethnic minority Afrikaners’ agricultural property without compensation."

"This Act follows countless government policies designed to dismantle equal opportunity in employment, education, and business, and hateful rhetoric and government actions fueling disproportionate violence against racially disfavored landowners," the executive order said.

"In addition, South Africa has taken aggressive positions towards the United States and its allies, including accusing Israel, not Hamas, of genocide in the International Court of Justice, and reinvigorating its relations with Iran to develop commercial, military, and nuclear arrangements."

The order continued, "The United States cannot support the government of South Africa’s commission of rights violations in its country or its ‘undermining United States foreign policy, which poses national security threats to our Nation, our allies, our African partners, and our interests."

The order states that "it is the policy of the United States that, as long as South Africa continues these unjust and immoral practices that harm our Nation," the US "shall not provide aid or assistance to South Africa" and "shall promote the resettlement of Afrikaner refugees escaping government-sponsored race-based discrimination, including racially discriminatory property confiscation."
