Analysis by Tim Donner, LibertyNation.com

Editor’s Note: Say What? is the segment of Liberty Nation Radio where we unveil some of the most wacky, astonishing, and damnable things uttered by politicians and the chattering class.

Tim Donner: We make a big mistake by focusing on the specific charge that finally triggered the Democrats to go ahead and impeach President Donald Trump. If you think the issue of Ukraine is so troubling to the Democrats that they have legitimate grounds to forcibly remove a duly-elected president from office, then you just haven’t been paying attention.

This has been neither an impeachment inquiry nor impeachment hearings. This is the culmination of an impeachment crusade.

These people are driven by three Ds: derangement, delusion, and desperation.

The moment Trump was elected president, you knew the rapidly unhinged Democrats would try anything to remove him from office, and they’ve done exactly that with the Logan Act, the Emoluments Clause, the 25th Amendment, none of which ever was used before against anyone. Then there was the firing of FBI Director James Comey, then the Stormy Daniels payoff, then lawyer Michael Avenatti’s shenanigans, then spurious testimony from Michael Cohen, and then — the granddaddy of them all — Trump-Russia collusion, all heralded as grounds for removing the president from office. And now comes the phone call with the Ukrainian president that finally cracked the impeachment dam.

Let’s take you right to the bottom line on this impeachment theater, this Soviet-style show trial Democrats have showcased for the last few weeks. Democrats apparently believe that a candidate who survived the outing of the avert-your-ears Access Hollywood tape a month before the 2016 election and a president in the midst of a robust economy that generated more than 6 million new jobs since he took office, including 266,000 in November, can be taken down by a phone call. Biased interpretive testimony about the call from a string of lifelong diplomats, political hacks wearing military uniforms, deep state functionaries, and left-wing, likely neo-Marxist law professors who didn’t even attempt to hide their personal disdain for the president presented a truly disgusting display of hubris, arrogance, and pomposity as they stooped from their cloistered ivory towers last week to lecture us on the evils of Trump.

These people had no facts and no original thoughts other than progressive interpretations of a Constitution most of them consider illegitimate because some of the framers owned slaves. All they did was watch the previous televised hearings so they could similarly peddle pure, undiluted, deep-down-to-the-bones hatred of this president. Hatred reserved not only for Trump but also for the people who elected him.

There was one useful thing in these hearings, though. Over these last three years of the Trump era, we’ve seen naked media bias unmasked. We’ve seen the encrusted political establishment and permanent bureaucracy take extraordinary, likely extraconstitutional measures to protect their turf against a bombastic outsider promising to drain the Swamp of the likes of them. We’ve seen hoax after hoax from rabid dog leftists and extremists of every stripe. But the nation had not yet been treated to the unmitigated Trump hatred in academia. The bias against Trump, and conservatives in general, on college campuses was displayed for all to see.

I won’t devalue your time by recounting all that these political hacks disguised as professors said in their anti-Trump diatribes taken directly from Democratic Party talking points. But what is worth your time is the testimony of the fourth professor, Jonathan Turley, measured, reasoned, and ordered. He began by saying that he’s no GOP operative and that — shocker of shockers — unlike the left-wing professors who preceded him, his own political views don’t matter.

Jonathan Turley: I’m not a supporter of President Trump. I voted against him. My personal views of President Trump are as irrelevant to my impeachment testimony as they should be to your impeachment vote .… I’m concerned about lowering impeachment standards to fit a paucity of evidence and an abundance of anger. I believe this impeachment not only fails to satisfy the standard of past impeachments, it would create a dangerous precedent for future impeachments.

Tim: Turley continued, saying this kind of rushed process with no crime established is unlike any other impeachment in American history.

Turley: All involved established crimes. This would be the first impeachment in history where there would be considerable debate, and in my view, not compelling evidence of the commission of a crime. Second is the abbreviated period of this investigation, which is problematic and puzzling. This is a facially incomplete and inadequate record in order to impeach a president.

Tim: And now, in perhaps his most enlightening remarks, Turley said this effort is exactly what the framers did not have in mind when they wrote impeachment into the Constitution.

Turley: We are living in the very period described by Alexander Hamilton, a period of agitated passions. I get it. You’re mad, the president’s mad, my Republican friends are mad, my Democratic friends are mad, my wife is mad, my kids are mad. Even my dog seems mad, and Loon is a Golden Doodle and they don’t get mad. So, we’re all mad. Where’s that taken us? Will a slipshod impeachment make us less mad? Will it only invite an invitation for the madness to follow every future administration? That is why this is wrong.

Tim: And now, it’s up to the American people to ultimately decide whether this impeachment is wrong or right. They will register their opinion in November.

But before we end this segment, I was trolling for the best single sound bite to exemplify the derangement, delusion, and desperation of the forces arrayed against this president. And here’s what I’ve found. This is little Brian Stelter, the so-called media analyst for CNN, interviewing a former Moonie, a former cult member, Steve Hassan, who says that Trump and the 63 million people who voted for him constitute a cult.

Steve Hassan: I am referring to Trump’s organization and followership as a destructive cult where people are being fed propaganda, and they’re not being encouraged to think for themselves.

Brian Stelter: You say the president is using mind control …

Hassan: We can start with the pathological lying, which is characteristic of destructive cult leaders. His use of fearmongering.

Stelter: It is frightening to hear a cult expert say that you see all these signs right now, today, in American politics.

Tim: That is what it’s come to, folks.
