“I would love Martha’s Vineyard to become a haven for new immigrants to this country, but Senator Cruz has no idea what he’s talking about regarding a ‘border crisis.' ”

That is what Keith Chatinover, a Democrat Dukes County commissioner told the MVTimes in October of last year after Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz was pushing a bill that would have sent those illegally crossing the southern border to Democrat strongholds like Martha’s Vineyard.

Then, on Wednesday, 50 illegal immigrants were flown from Florida to Martha's Vineyard.

What did the "haven" for immigrants do?

The immigrants, most from Venezuela, were put on buses and sent to a military base in Cape Cod, 32 miles away.

The leftists who run the show in Martha's Vineyard had said that when Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis sent the 50 illegals to the enclave of elitists in Massachusetts, he created a "humanitarian crisis."

"It was declared a humanitarian emergency, with the island leaders responding in the same way as a hurricane," Emma James wrote for Dailymail.com on Friday.

DeSantis accused critics of his move to fly the illegals to Martha's Vineyard of "virtue signaling," saying their concern for the welfare of the migrants was a "fraud."

"The minute even a small fraction of what those border towns deal with every day is brought to their front door, they go berserk, and they're so upset that this is happening," DeSantis said.

Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo noted how the Vineyard's wealthy liberal elites might react to the migrants: "These are all sanctuary cities until they're in their sanctuary. I doubt they will embrace them."

On Friday morning three buses pulled up outside of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Edgartown to take the mostly Venezuelan migrants on the first leg of their journey to the ferry.

"They will be traveling from the elite island of billionaires with holiday mansions - including multi-million homes owned by the Obama's and Oprah - to the military base on the mainland, escorted by police," James wrote.

Lisa Belcastro, a homelessness director in the area said on Thursday that Martha's Vineyard cannot support the migrants, because there is a shortage of affordable housing.

The median house in Martha's Vineyard is worth almost $800,000, according to the U.S. Census, and the median household income is $77,370 - well above the national average of $67,521.

Belcastro told reporters that at "some point they have to move somewhere else," because the island is suffering from a "housing crisis."

Cruz tweeted: “If 50 constitutes a humanitarian crisis in Martha’s Vineyard, what the h-ll is 4.2 MILLION?”

As of last month, 4.2 million foreigners had crossed the U.S. southern border illegally since Jan. 20, 2021, enticed by Team Biden's open borders policies.

DeSantis said the flights to Martha’s Vineyard were part of an effort to “transport illegal immigrants to sanctuary destinations.” The Florida Legislature has earmarked $12 million to transport “unauthorized aliens” out of state.

Meanwhile, two buses of migrants from Texas arrived early Thursday outside Kamala Harris’s residence at the United States Naval Observatory, carrying more than 100 migrants from Colombia, Cuba, Guyana, Nicaragua, Panama and Venezuela.

“The Biden-Harris administration continues ignoring and denying the historic crisis at our southern border, which has endangered and overwhelmed Texas communities for almost two years,” said Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, who has poured billions of taxpayer dollars into making border security a signature issue.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom, a Democrat who has publicly feuded with DeSantis and Abbot over their conservative policies, on Thursday asked the U.S. Department of Justice to investigate whether transporting migrants across state lines as “political props” broke the law.

“Transporting families, including children, across state lines under false pretenses is morally reprehensible, but it may also be illegal,” Newsom wrote in a letter to U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland that he also posted on his Twitter account.

Newsom was silent when the Biden administration secretly flew illegal unaccompanied minors on "ghost flights" to Westchester County, New York.

Some of the flights arrived in the middle of the night and without passenger manifests being made available, the National Pulse noted.

WorldTribune.com reported in October of last year that planeloads of underage migrants were being flown secretly to the Westchester County Airport.

“The clandestine nature of the operation raises questions about how the White House is dealing with a recent surge in unaccompanied minors,” the New York Post reported at the time.
